UV disinfection in ship ballast water treatment advantage

To help cruise ships, tankers and other large marine operators spread meet the International Maritime Organization International Maritime Association of the upcoming (IMO) ballast water discharge requirements, UV disinfection specialist Hanovia cooperation with three of the world's leading systems integration experts, You provide an efficient and easy to install water treatment systems on board and use.
All ocean-going vessels are required to achieve stability with ballast water. Typically taken in the coastal port water area, and has been transported to the next port, even until the other side of the port of destination of the earth will be drained. This water usually contains marine organisms, such as: plankton, algae, bacteria, and various biological eggs, cysts and larvae. Although many will die during transport, but some will survive and affect the local marine environment, against the native species, local ecosystems and play a serious role in the destruction. The environmental impact of ballast water, is now regarded as one of the greatest threats to the world's oceans.
Two methods have been proposed to overcome this problem: the ship ballast water and ballast water exchange. As the name suggests: ballast water treatment primarily for treating ballast water prior to discharge; and ballast water exchange is prior to entering the ports and coastal waters, drainage of ballast water in the open sea. This open water exchange is not the ideal solution, because there is a potential security risk, and may make the ship unstable. Meanwhile, the existing ballast water exchange system, can not be completely discharged water in the tank, part of the water will precipitate and survived, so non-native species to the discharge port of destination.
Ballast water exchange in addition to not complete, open water ballast water exchange is difficult to manage and monitor, and in fact many of the ship operator did not manage and monitor. Thus, the establishment of more stringent standards to control the IMO ballast water operations, and has released two international covenants to solve this problem; the first is the International Convention on Maritime Pollution (MARPOL) to prevent, for emissions from ships in waste and wastewater (entered into force in 2003); the second is the international ballast water management Convention (BWM), is used to control the spread of alien species (will enter into force in 2009). According to the BWM Convention, the ship's ballast water must be treated, the size of water per cubic microorganisms 50um or more live in 10 or less.
To help ship operators meet these requirements, Hanovia cooperation with leading systems integration specialist, to design a UV disinfection system. This system, combined with a filtering device that can kill or eliminate almost all of the microorganisms present in ballast water; this integrated system comprises a high intensity medium pressure UV disinfection unit, and an automatic reverse flow filter. After the ballast water flow through the filter to remove the large creatures, it will flow through the UV treatment chamber to kill smaller creatures. When the discharge of ballast water, the water will bypass the filter, flows through the UV cabin again, so as to further any remaining water to kill microorganisms.
Integrated system is small, it can be installed anywhere. Thus, for easy installation in marine equipment limited indoor space. After installation, the system requires only a simple operation crew. It consists of a master PLC control unit, this unit can also be incorporated into the ship's machinery automation network. UV unit equipped with automatic cleaning device online, the ultraviolet light is always kept clean, the only required maintenance crew, is the cost of replacing a UV lamp, as well as some non-recurring preventive maintenance every year.
